Ketamine (Special K, ket, super K, or kitkat) is an anaesthetic drug used in both human and veterinary medicine. It is primarily used in combination with a sedative for the induction and maintenance of general anaesthesia. Because of its hallucinogenic effects, ketamine is also used as a recreational drug and for spiking drinks. Sold illegally, this drug typically comes in white, crystal powder form (but it can also be made into pills and tablets). It can be ingested orally, snorted, or taken intravenously. Some users smoke the powder together with other substances like tobacco and cannabis.
Ketamine has varying effects, depending on a user's size, weight, and overall health condition, the amount taken, or whether or not it was taken with another drug. However, most ketamine users experience the same common immediate effects, which can manifest as fast as 30 seconds after the drug is injected, or up to 10 minutes after it is snorted, and after 20 minutes after it is swallowed. The effects can last from 45 to 90 minutes. Besides, ketamine addiction, it can be treated.
